Columbus Navigation System

The car stereo, Columbus Navigation System* and trip computer are housed in one system that gives the driver access to the vehicle setup, Driver Assist Systems and comfort functions through a single device. The proximity sensor recognises when a hand is moving towards the touchscreen and brings up the function buttons ready to be used, while intuitive swiping and pinching movements allow the user to scroll menus and zoom into maps easily.

Columbus Navigation System also features SmartLink^ - delivering a seamless connection between car and smartphone using Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. SmartLink enables you to control compatible apps from the infotainment display, whether it be listening to music on the smartphone connected or receive turn-by-turn directions; all of this is mirrored on Columbus display.

Adaptive Cruise Control*

An outstanding technological advancement, standard on the Octavia range and New Superb, is Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)* - an extension of the conventional cruise control system with advanced capabilities based on a radar sensor located on the front grille. When ACC is activated, the vehicle automatically brakes and accelerates to a speed and distance set by the driver. The dynamics of the ACC system can be individually varied by selecting one of the driving programs from the Driving Mode Selection.

Advanced Keyless Entry with Smart Start*

Advanced Keyless Entry Including Smart Start* can be added to allow the driver to lock and unlock the car and start and stop the engine without having to insert or even handle the key. As long as the key is within 1.5m of the sensor, the system will work. A number of simply clever features ensure you can check the lock, preventing you from locking the key inside and preventing unwanted access.

Front Assist with City Emergency Brake*

Front Assist* is a safety system that warns of the danger of collision, and in case of an unavoidable collision applies the brakes in an attempt to minimise the consequences.

Front Assist* works with a radar sensor integrated into the radiator grille, constantly monitoring the distance from the traffic ahead.

If the gap becomes too small or a collision is impending and the driver fails to react, the system automatically intervenes at one of four levels:

a visual alert that the statutory safe distance has been exceeded,
an acoustic and visual warning signal,
an automatic jolt of the brakes,
automatic braking to avoid a collision or reduce the severity
of the accident.

ŠKODA vehicles are equipped with a wide range of active and passive safety elements that simplify your work as the driver and helping you to avoid or resolve high-risk situations.

In a ŠKODA, you have a range of active safety features and electronic systems to help you handle almost any situation safely. While ABS helps you to keep control of the car when braking suddenly, ESC helps you to manage skids and EDS helps you take advantage of all available traction on a slippery surface. There are also braking assist and tyre pressure monitors.

Bi-Xenon headlights

Bi-Xenon headlights with AFS (Adaptive Frontlight System) are an optional feature that are able to adjust the lighting in front of the car to the current driving conditions. In addition, the Bi-Xenon headlights are equipped with rotary modules, which illuminate as you turn. Furthermore, the front fog lamps with cornering function are useful during turns in poorly lit areas.

Passenger Protect Assist

This feature coordinates the activities of the onboard systems to minimise emergency traffic situations.

The system pre-tensions the front seat belts in the event of unstable driving situations, such as severe over- or understeering, and also engages with the ESC to close the side windows and sunroof almost fully in order to prevent foreign objects from entering the vehicle.
Additionally, the system works with the front radar. This Passenger Protect Assist - Front can provide anticipative reactions using the Adaptive Cruise Control’s front sensors.

Side Assist - Blind Spot Detection^*

Side Assist (Blind Spot Detection)^* helps the driver to change lanes safely by registering any vehicles in the blind spot.

Two radar sensors located in the lower part of the rear bumper monitor the area beside and up to 20 metres behind the ŠKODA Superb.

When the system detects vehicles in the blind spot next to the car or approaching from behind, an LED symbol in the wing mirror lights up to alert the driver. If the driver indicates in the direction of the detected vehicle, the LED starts to flash, indicating the possible danger to the driver.

Blind Spot Detection is active from 10 km/h up to the vehicle's top speed.

Airbags

The main purpose of airbags in the ŠKODA vehicles is to work together with the safety belts to help reduce any part of the occupants' bodies from contact with the rigid components of the vehicle.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

When braking, sensors in each wheel measure the road speed. If one or more wheels start to lock, the ABS reduces brake pressure to those wheels. This prevents the wheels from locking during heavy or emergency braking and allows you to continue to steer the vehicle.
